What is statutory paternity pay (SPP)?

If you are having a baby, your husband/partner may be entitled to SPP if you meet the criteria:

– The employee must be the husband/partner of the mother expecting.

– Be employed up to the point the baby is due.

– Provide 15 weeks’ notice before the week the baby is expected (this can be changed with 28 days’ notice)

– Explain the level of leave required.

– Eligible for paternity leave from their first day of employment.

– You can claim £194.32 per week in the year 2026/27 or 90% of your average earnings, for a maximum of two weeks.
